Our Trout

Smoky Trout Farm has quality Rainbow, Brown, Brook and Tiger trout for you. We offer healthy, vibrant trout from 4-12 inches for spring and fall pond stocking in private ponds throughout Alberta. You can choose from Rainbow, Brook or Tiger trout in 2023.

All of our trout are raised without hormones or antibiotics in a biosecure barn that is free of whirling disease. You can be confident in the safety and sustainability of our trout and what you catch in your pond.

Our expert team members help our customers understand the simplest and best ways to care for their trout and pond. We understand that your trout stocking and pond water quality are investments in your lifestyle and in your property. We’ve been in business since 1998 and have helped thousands of Albertans build beautiful and sustainable fisheries in their backyard.

We pride ourselves on having a VERY HIGH repeat customer rate. Many of our customers pre-order fish for the following year when taking delivery or picking up their fish order.

Our fish are sized by WEIGHT. Fish grown at different temperatures and feed rates will be different proportions. Our production is based on weight and that is the most consistent way to size our fish.

Algae blooms? Fish Kills? Foul Odours? Smoky Trout Farm offers a full range of products to help you manage your pond. Pond Ownership

A private pond or lake means different things to different people. For some it is a place for quiet alone time. For others it is about gathering friends and family together. Whatever your pond means to you, it should be clean and healthy.

About Our Barn

Our recirculatory aquaculture facility has a very low net water use, with higher water reuse rates than the vast majority of indoor fish farms in operation. Over 99.8% of our water is continually recirculated with only about 0.2% of new makeup water used on a net daily basis.

Smoky Trout has used solar installations for over a decade to help offset the energy demand of recirculating enough water to support hundreds of thousands of trout. In 2023, we’re expanding our solar capacity with the goal of becoming net zero.

We’re bio-secure. While this means we can’t do tours of the facility, we’re also free of whirling disease. Maintaining this status is fundamental to our ability to continue servicing our clients throughout the province. Because our barn is whirling disease free, with proper customer licensing, we can transport trout into areas of Alberta that have been impacted by whirling disease.
